JOEL GERSHON MASLOVSKY (published on October 04, 2008)

JOEL GERSHON MASLOVSKY It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joel Gershon Maslovsky on September 23, 2008 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Joel was born February 2, 1950 in Winnipeg and grew up on the family farm in North Springfield. Joel lived his entire life in the city of Winnipeg except for a one-year Aliyah to Israel. Prior to falling ill, Joel enjoyed his position with Searcy Trucking and took great pride in all his previous employment endeavours. The last year was a difficult one for Joel but he was an inspiration to all who knew him. Joel believed in the value of working for the service of others culmination in being a past president of the Herzlia Adas Yeshurun Synagogue. To his family and friends Joel was a kind and considerate individual who was a jack of all trades and a big shoulder to lean on. Joel is survived by his sons, Avi (Kelly) Marshall, Daniel (Alisa) and his grandson Yaacov Chiam and the boy's mother, Carol Silver. Joel will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sisters, Myrna (Barney) Charach, Miriam (Preston) Segal and all his many nieces and nephews and their children. Joel was so fortunate to have found a life partner as compassionate and supportive as Val Kolynchuk. She and her children, Brad and Janessa brightened Joel's days. Funeral services officiated by Bill Weissmann were held on September 25 at the Chesed Shel Emes, followed by interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were his nephews, Michael, Stephen and Charles Segal; Shane and Michael Silver; and his brother-in-law Preston Segal. Donations in Joel's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
