JOYCE HUMISKI (published on October 04, 2008)

JOYCE HUMISKI Suddenly, on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Portage District General Hospital, Joyce Humiski, beloved wife of Ed Humiski, passed away at the age of 81 years. Joyce was born on August 22, 1927, daughter of Walter and Averil Hannah on the farm at Mill Creek, MB. She was raised in the Poplar Point district and attended the Poplar Point School. In 1944 she married Edward Humiski and they farmed at Oakville for a short time and then they purchased their current farm at High Bluff where they have lived for over 60 years. Joyce was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption and was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. In her teen years she was an outstanding softball player, playing throughout Manitoba on the Olive Little baseball team. Joyce loved to dance with her husband Ed and together every Saturday night you would find them looking for a dance to attend. Some of her special times were spent with her family camping, traveling, fishing and hunting. She was a wonderful cook and housekeeper, and spent countless hours gardening, canning and preparing food for her family or to give away. Predeceased by her parents, grandchildren Crystal Lynn Humiski (1977) and Troy Danny Humiski (1980); two brothers Wes and Kenneth; two sisters Lorna and Anita. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 64 years Ed; two sons Danny (Jo Anne) and Terry (Michelle) both of High Bluff; two daughters Lorraine (Reg) Wallace of Petersfield, MB and June (Harvey) Murray of Portage la Prairie; grandchildren Dana (Colin) Trapp, Colin (Amy) Friederici, Stacey Murray, Kealy Murray, Cindy (Charles) Reyher, Cortney Humiski (Scott Rands), Lisa Humiski, Janine (Dan) Tucker and Eddy Humiski; great-grandchildren Jenna and Ashley Trapp, Taylor, Luke and Jesse Friederici, Zoey Murray, Deacon Reyher and Lily Rands. Also surviving are her brother Allen Hannah of Portage la Prairie; sisters-in-law Thelma Hannah of Southport, and Dorothy Hannah of Poplar Point and numerous other relatives and friends. Prayers will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Sunday evening, October 5, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Father Michael Tkachuk officiating and the Reverend Deacon Michael Strilec assisting. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8.
