ROBERT (BOB) SMART (published on October 06, 2008)

ROBERT (BOB) SMART Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 29, 1944, I, Robert (Bob) Smart died on September 26, 2008 after a lengthy illness with ALS. I leave behind me my beloved partner, Teresa; my son, Colin Smart and his wife, Tanya; my daughter, Lauren Paquette and her husband, Rene and my pretty granddaughter, Breanne; my sister in the U.K., Jane Potter; and my nephew, Richard Potter of Bahrein. I was predeceased by my father, Richard Smart, and my mother, Edith Smart, as well as numerous friends, along with my wonderful little Cairn Terrier, Mac, who I long to see if there is indeed an after-life. I grew up in Regina, but spent most of my adult life in Winnipeg, where I taught at Vincent Massey Collegiate for 37 years. I was fortunate to have had many remarkable students during my career. In my private life I was blessed with wonderful children, great friends and finally, my love, Teresa. I would like to thank my friend Neil Taylor and other friends, who went out of their way to make my life as full as possible during the last two years. I'd also like to thank Dr. Garnet Crawford of the palliative care ward at St. Boniface Hospital for his understanding and support. A memorial service will be held at Canad Inns, 1824 Pembina Hwy. on October 9, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. where all are welcome to share their memories. In lieu of flowers contributions should be made to the ALS Society.
