SUSAN DYCK (published on October 11, 2008)



SUSAN DYCK On October 9, 2008 Susan Dyck's prayer was answered, the prayer found in Psalm 118, verse 5 I called upon the Lord in my distress, the Lord answered me and set me in a large place Susan was born to Jacob and Helena Unger on April 21, 1925 in Winkler, Manitoba. At six months of age, Susan relocated to Mexico, where she spent the first 13 years of her life. In 1938, she came back to Canada and started working at the young age of 13 as a housekeeper/maid with many heavy responsibilities. Susan worked at the Winkler Hospital for a number of years, and then went on to work at the Municipal Hospitals in Winnipeg. She worked there during the Polio epidemic in the 1950's. During this time she became serious friends with Peter Dyck. Peter and Susan were married on May 11, 1958. They shared many joys and sorrows until December 23, 2000, when Peter left this earth to be with the Lord. Susan and Peter worked side by side at the Union Gospel Mission for many years. They had the wonderful joy of seeing God move Union Gospel Mission from a very needy facility on Main Street, to a beautiful promising new home at 320 Princess Street. Susan was blessed with her son, Jim in 1962, and her daughter, Laverna in 1965. Susan was a wonderful and loving mother to both her children. Susan was predeceased by her husband Peter Dyck. She is survived by her son Jim Dyck, wife Angie, grandchildren Kara and Ryan, daughter Laverna Sossai, husband Carmine, grandchildren Karlee and Brandon. Susan was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by many. Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Morrow Gospel Church, 755 St. Anne's Road, Winnipeg, MB. Viewing on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, 7:00-7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB.
