THOMAS EDWARD SILK (published on October 15, 2008)

THOMAS EDWARD SILK It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Silk at the age of 50, on Monday, October 13, 3008 at the Health Sciences Centre. Tom will be greatly missed by his father Douglas Silk, his sister Deborah (George) Eves, his brother Allan (Colleen), his nieces Rhiannon (Francesco) Evangelista, Sarah Jane Eves, Erica Silk, his nephew Ian Silk as well as many aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia Silk in 2007. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Tom’s great love was sports both as a participant, when his health permitted, and as a spectator. He completed the Manitoba Marathon, the New York City marathon, and qualified for the Boston Marathon but was unable to compete due to ill health. More recently, he was a member of Reh Fit. He was an avid Bomber and Goldeyes fan but he especially loved the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team. Tom attended Holy Trinity Anglican Church where he served as the bell ringer, greeter, vestry member and willingly volunteered for any job that needed to be done. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation, P.O. Box 1943, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R2 or to the Mission Ministry at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 256 Smith Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1K1. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on A4 at the Health Sciences Centre, the Liver Disease Unit, CancerCare Manitoba and the Home Care Program for their wonderful care and support.
