CARMELLE BESTLAND (published on October 17, 2008)

CARMELLE BESTLAND September 30, 1941 – October 15, 2008 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Carmelle Bestland at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, Manitoba on Wednesday October 15, 2008 at the age of 67. Carmelle was predeceased by her husband Arthur (Puddy) Bestland and will be lovingly remembered by her children; Sherry (Paul), Bradley, and Monica (Richard); and by her nine grandchildren, Stephane, Colin, Chloe, Jordan, Riley, Dillon, Shayne, William, and Tristan. Carmelle was also predeceased by her parents Leonne (Desaulniers) and Louis Landry. She will also be lovingly remembered by her siblings Simone (late husband Dave), Jackie (Murray), Guy (Teri), Luce (Brian), and Estelle (Fred); along with many in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins. Carmelle will be missed by her many friends, especially Georgie Landry, Catherine Robertson, Louise Robin, Alice Nault and family. Carmelle was born and raised in Morris Manitoba. She graduated from St. Joseph College and married her first love Puddy Bestland in 1961. They had three children and moved several times early in their marriage before settling in St. Pierre-Jolys. Carmelle worked as the secretary in the high school for 28 years and was very involved in the community throughout her life from the 4-H Club, the St. Pierre Figure Skating Club, St. Pierre Manor Board, to ministry work within the St. Pierre Parish. Carmelle was a free spirit and loved socializing with friends and family. She loved to dance and sing. Every party had to have her favourite jiving music as well as her two favourite songs, “YMCA” and “We are Family”. Carmelle loved to play horseshoes and golf. She also had a passion for gardening and took great pride in her yard and flower beds. She enjoyed traveling and especially their winter vacations. Carmelle also enjoyed our family time at the cottage sipping her beer and clamato on the dock. She was a good friend to many of those who knew her and she will be truly missed. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the St. Pierre Home Care staff and the staff at the Morris Hospital and Red River Valley Lodge for taking such good care of Carmelle. Special thanks to Paulette Chouinard, Marielle Dyck, Danielle (Burke) Sabourin, Teri Wylde, and Guy Landry for their compassion and care they gave to Carmelle. A Celebration of life will be held at the St. Pierre Roman Catholic Church in St. Pierre- Jolys on Saturday October 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a gathering at the St.Pierre Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald St. R3C 1M4, or to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9.
