NORBERT ARNHOLD (published on October 17, 2008)

NORBERT ARNHOLD Norbert Arnhold passed away, peacefully, with his daughter, Connie by his side at the Beausejour Hospital on Thursday, October 16, 2008. Left to cherish his memory are his son Reg (Pearl); daughter Connie (Gilbert) Gosselin; grandchildren Evan, Heidi (Marc), Holly and Becky; one great-grandchild Jayla; five step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Biedler; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Irma in 1985, parents William and Alvina Arnhold and sisters Laura Gray and Gertrude Krentz. Norbert was born in Greenwald, MB on June 25, 1922. He married Irma Biedler on October 21, 1949. They farmed on the Arnhold homestead. In his spare time, before and after his marriage to Irma, he loved to hunt and trap. In 1954, Dad and his family moved to Winnipeg. First he worked at Safeway and later owned and operated a general store on Redwood Avenue. After living in Winnipeg for 2 1/2 years, Dad and Mom missed farming and bought the Glenmoor farm. In winter, Dad would cut pulpwood at Pine Falls and Bird River. In summer, Dad would work at the Julius Moss Plant and work on the farm in the evenings. After ten years, Dad and Mom set up a hog farming operation which was in operation until Mom passed away in 1985. Dad sold the farm in 1986 and retired to Beausejour. Dad took up the hobby of building and refinishing furniture and giving them to us. Dad loved to go fishing with friends. He would spend his evenings with numerous friends at Chicken Delight. Dad had a passion for music and loved to play his trumpet, at home, in the church band and every midnight on New Year's playing Auld Lang Zyne at friends homes. Dad also had a passion for garage sales and sharing his garage sale treasures with us. Dad was always supportive, with great warmth and gentle kindness. He would offer assistance to anyone without hesitation or expectation of repayment. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff in the Shamrock Unit at East Gate Lodge, to the friends that visited Dad at East Gate Lodge and also to the nurses at Beausejour Hospital. The respect, dignity, kindness and care given to our Dad will never be forgotten. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21 at 2:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 403 - 1st Street N., Beausejour MB with Pastor Bob Jacob officiating. Friends may view prior to the service from 1:30 - 2:30. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of our Dad may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
