JOHN THIESSEN 1924 – 2008 After a lengthy battle with cancer, John Thiessen, beloved husband of Kay, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2008 with his family by his side at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 84 years. Remaining to forever cherish John’s memory are his wife Kay (nee Hoffman) of 59 years of marriage; five children, Robert (Margaret), Rick (Doreen), Jack (Barb), Joanne Braun (Eric), and Donna Peterson; 12 grandchildren, Michelle Cenerini (Norm), Aron, Bryant, Laura Boulet (Jason), Dylan, Jesse, Brent, Kevin, Jessica, Simone, Rebecca, and Constance; five great-grandchildren, Emily, Paige, Sophie, Michael, and Britney. He is also survived by family members Liese Becker (Peter), Anne Braun, Lydia Voth (Henry), Hedy (Aron), Agatha Dyck (Jack), Margaret Funk (Bernie), and sister-in -aw Meta Balko (Richard). He is predeceased by his parents, Aron & Margareta (nee Diedger); brother, Aron; brother-in-law, John Braun, and mother in law, Olga Hoffman. John was born on September 16, 1924 at sea while coming to Canada from Russia with his family. He was baptized May 20, 1945 in Schoenfelder Mennonite Church in Pigeon Lake by Rev. Abrahams. John married Kay Hoffman June 11, 1949. They farmed in the Marquette area until they moved to Winnipeg in 1979 where they became members of First Mennonite Church. He immediately went to work at Concordia Hospital until he retired in 1990. He made many friends there. On Wednesday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. John’s Funeral Service will be held in the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue at Alverstone Street. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace General Hospital and St Boniface Palliative Care Unit for their wonderful care.
