HEATHER DAWN SKOROPATA (published on October 20, 2008)

HEATHER DAWN SKOROPATA December 26, 1957 – October 20, 2008 Gimli, Manitoba After a two year, courageous battle with ovarian cancer, our beloved Heather passed away Monday, October 20, 2008, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, with her loving family by her side. Heather is predeceased by her mother, Josephine Solmundson (Zagozewski) and father Edwin (Ted) Solmundson. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, David; precious princess daughter Tamara and son-in-law Conrado; precious baby Trevor, cherished baby brother Curtis Solmundson (Lee); her adored nieces Taylor and Lindsey; and brother Brent Solmundson. Heather was born, raised and lived most of her life in her personal paradise, Gimli. Growing up she spent much time with her three siblings (sharing a treasured and special bond with her sister Colleen) and making many friends which she still counted as friends into adulthood. She met David as a teenager, marrying him at the age of eighteen. Together they grew-up, started their family in Calgary and journeyed through life. Heather had many interests throughout her life; a passion for learning about her Icelandic genealogy (which took her on a visit to Iceland with David in 2003), curling (getting an eight ender with her team in the 2001-2002 season), playing bridge, and above all gardening in her beautiful yard. Heather worked many jobs in Gimli throughout her life, but found her niche working with the residents at Gimli Betel Home as a recreation worker later to become the recreation coordinator. Heather worked very hard, taking courses to become a certified recreation worker; something her family was very proud of. Heather’s greatest joy in life was her children. She watched on with pride as Tamara grew up and moved to Winnipeg to pursue her education and eventually finding the man she would marry in a special ceremony at the Gimli Community Health Centre on the same date she married David. She proudly lived with Trevor, celebrating his hockey and baseball triumphs, listening to his stories of the big ones that got away and looking at his pictures of the fish he did get; happily watching his career begin at CN. A memorial service in Heather’s honour will be held on Thursday October 23, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church. Heather’s special sister Colleen Solmundson passed away on the same day and will also be remembered at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gimli Betel Home Courtyard, Box 10, Gimli, MB, R0C 1B0. Special thank you to Dr. R.C Patel and Julie Kumps. Heather will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and niece. Bless elsku mamma Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
