BARRIE GLEN PHILIP BEHL (published on October 24, 2008)

BARRIE GLEN PHILIP BEHL January 2, 1937 – October 22, 2008 Suddenly on October 22, 2008, Barrie Behl, loving husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law passed away into eternal life. Barrie leaves to mourn his wife of 49 years Betty; daughter Janice Wagner; son Glen (Andrea) Behl and grandchildren Stephanie, Natalie and Taylor; mother-in-law Maria Witiuk and dog Smokey. He was predeceased by his father Philip; mother Caroline and father-in-law William Witiuk. Barrie grew up in West Kildonan and attended Centennial School. He followed in his father’s footsteps and went into hairdressing. A short time later he found his true calling in the meat industry, starting at Tomboy stores, Loblaws and finally Dominion, where he worked as a meat manager for 25 years. Upon his retirement, Dad worked, along side his son, as a shop supervisor for Jaguar Transport. Dad had many hobbies throughout his life. These hobbies became a great source of personal pleasure and he devoted countless hours into each and every one of them. These included building aquariums, breeding and showing tropical and salt-water fish, CB and short wave radios, car restoration, model railroads and antique collecting. He also belonged to the Gateway Gun Club where he received a marksmanship award. There was nothing that Barrie could not build or fix. He was a natural handyman. Dad loved his animals especially his three Smokeys and had dogs all his life. For all who knew Barrie, a celebration or family dinner was not the same without his jokes and teasing; everyone had a nickname. Barrie was a quiet man with a mischievous grin , a proud father and grandfather. He will be truly missed. We love you Dad. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Father Bill Wasyliw officiating. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barrie’s memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
