CLIFFORD HENRY MCGHIE (published on October 25, 2008)

CLIFFORD HENRY MCGHIE On Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Health Sciences Centre, Cliff passed away at the age of 81. Predeceased by his wife Joyce in 2003, he will be lovingly remembered by his children, Ken, Pam (John), Terrie (Peter) and Robert; grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica and Reanna; and great-grandchildren, Sydney and RJ. He is survived by his sister Eva Hanna, his cousin Verna McLaughlin and their families. Cliff was born on February 15, 1927, and lived many places in Manitoba throughout his childhood. He and his mother moved to Sperling where he attended school, grew up and worked. Cliff came to Winnipeg and enrolled at Musker Engineering Institute. He worked at a number of different jobs, eventually settling at Esso on River and Osborne. In 1956 he opened Cliff's Esso Service on Pembina Highway, which was the first gaseteria of it's kind in Winnipeg. It was a very successful venture. He ended his working career at Metro Propane Ltd. retiring in 1987. In 1951 Cliff married Joyce and they raised four children. Together they built a cottage at Spruce Bay, Manitoba and with their family enjoyed 30 summers. After retirement they traveled throughout Canada and the United States. During the last five years he declined in health, but still enjoyed living in his condo with the "southern exposure". He was content to work on his Red River carts, model railway and small town buildings, and put together puzzles. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the homecare workers who made it possible for him to stay at home and to the doctors and nurses on the HSC 6th Floor Dialysis Unit. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation and interment have already taken place. Donations may be made in Cliff's memory to The Kidney Foundation of Manitoba, 1- 452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3Y 1G4. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
