MARK TRAVIS SOBERING (published on January 07, 2009)

MARK TRAVIS SOBERING It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mark Travis Sobering, at Victoria General Hospital, on December 31, 2008, at the age of 46 years. Mark is lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife, of 19 years, Nicole; his precious daughter Cheyenne; parents, Frank and Lena Sobering; brothers, Ryan (Michelle), Wayne (Debbie), Rick (Sheri); and sister Donna (Mario); nephews and nieces, Pamela, Kyle, Jordan, McKenah, Jesse, Jory, Jia, Tyler, Sydney and Lucas. Also mourning his passing are Nicole's parents, Lucien and Lorraine Cote, of Vassar, Manitoba; and Nicole's siblings and their families. Mark was born on July 15, 1962, grew up in Piney, Manitoba and attended Shevchenko Collegiate in Vita, Manitoba. After graduation he joined the Winnipeg Police Department where he served as a police constable for 20 years. He also managed Sobering Security for many years. After retiring, Mark followed his dream and enrolled in the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. He earned his law degree in 2006 and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 2007. He worked as a Crown Attorney with Manitoba Justice Prosecutions in criminal law after graduation until the time of his passing. Mark married the love of his life, Nicky, in Jamaica, on April 16, 1989. In 1997, they became the proud parents of their daughter, Cheyenne. She was always the apple of her Daddy's eye . Mark's greatest joy came from spending time with his family, enjoying their backyard and swimming pool, and relaxing with a bottle of Corona beer. Mark loved winter vacations with his family and this year returned to Jamaica with Nicky and Cheyenne to visit the place they were married. He also enjoyed camping and spending time driving around the east ridge near Piney. Mark loved playing the drums, golfing and watching the Vikings and the Blue Jays. Mark always had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews. They loved him dearly even with all of his teasing. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Friday, January 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6 Those we love we never lose, For always they will be, Loved, remembered, treasured, Always in our memory.
