INEZ ALTHEA COSENS (DEACON) On January 2, 2009, Inez Cosens, widow of Henry Cosens, passed quietly away, at Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall. Born at Ninga, Manitoba, September 25, 1908, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Deacon, she received her elementary and high school education there, and took teacher training at the Brandon Normal School. She served in that profession for four years in Manitoba. She moved with her husband to Argyle in 1934 where she resided until 1981 when she retired to Warren and in 1994 to Lions Manor in Stonewall. In her youth she was very interested in athletics, particularly basketball, baseball and track events. She played in the first exhibition game of Badminton to introduce it into Manitoba (Brandon 1926). Her jolly nature and outgoing personality made for a large circle of friends throughout her life. Inez spent over 20 years caring for her husband, who had Lou Gehrig's disease, while also managing their farm. Surviving are three grandchildren, Brant, of Winnipeg, Kevin (Judy), of Seattle, Washington, Lisa (Sylvain), of Queenstown, Ontario; great-grandchildren, Megan, of Vancouver, Sloane, of Seattle, Julian, Celeste and Alexandre, of Queenstown; daughter-in-law Marie (Cosens) Craig (Roy); nieces, Helen Compton, Fern (Gary) Garner, Cheryl Deacon; nephews, Perry (Mona) Robson, Murray (Darlene) Deacon, Arnold (Helen) Deacon, Stewart Deacon. She was predeceased by her husband Henry, 1981; son Keith, 1990; her parents; and sisters, Clara Bulloch, of Reston, Irene Robson, of Deleau, Nina Deacon, of Ninga, Gladys Compton, of Winnipeg; and her brother Claburne Deacon, of Killarney; several nieces and nephews. For all those people who have shared in Inez Cosens' life we ask you to consider yourselves Honourary Pallbearers. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
