OLIVE PEARL JOHNSTON (published on January 08, 2009)

OLIVE PEARL JOHNSTON December 20, 1922 - January 6, 2008 Olive passed, peacefully, but unexpectedly, on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. She was a devoted wife to Dick. She leaves behind her daughter Dr. Janine and her two grandchildren, Shanleigh and Ian and her youngest daughter Maureen. Her two sisters, Josephine Perfetti and Yvonne Pellowe, in British Columbia predeceased her. She will be missed by her many relatives in Canada and Ireland, her friends from the neighbourhood, bowling and the Legion. Olive was born in Winnipeg but spent most of her youth in Calgary. She returned to Winnipeg to finish her education at Gordon Bell High School. She later worked as an auditor for Eaton's Mail Order. She met Richard in 1945 and they were married on June 28, 1947. She and Dick celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last year. She was a creative painter in oils and pastels, but excelled in water colour landscapes. Many of her paintings are hung at Thomson House Medical Clinic in Winnipeg. She was an avid bowler until the end. Throughout the years, Ollie and Dick enjoyed their many international travels, making many friends worldwide. She was an exemplary homemaker, whether tending to her indoor or outdoor gardens or in the kitchen, baking. We would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for their exemplary care. The family would like to express gratitude to her physicians, Dr. L.R. Kroeker and Dr. V. Woo. As per her wishes, no formal service will be held. Donations, in her memory, can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
