WALTER SETLACK (published on January 10, 2009)

WALTER SETLACK JR. Walter Setlack Jr. passed away suddenly on January 5, 2009 in Snow Lake, Manitoba. Walter was born on June 24, 1953 in Winnipeg to Mary and Walter Setlack Sr. Walter was predeceased by his father Walter Sr. in 1988. He is survived by the love of his life Margaret, his wife, and his stepchildren, Fran (Rejean), Frank (Loretta), Maria (Jeff), Dorothy (Freddie), Doug (Hazel) and Randy. He is also survived by his mother Mary, brothers William (Jacquie), Wayne (Patty), Willis (Jo-Anne) and sisters Wendy (Mike) and Wanita (Alan). He will be greatly missed by 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Walter worked as a heavy-equipment mechanic/operator, professional truck driver, welder and steel fabricator. He worked in southeastern Manitoba before finding his niche in several northern communities. He settled in Snow Lake where he continued his own business (Walterbuilt) and worked for the mining industry. His most recent position was with Strilkiwski Construction. Walter could do anything he set his mind to. Things had to be done his way the right way. A strong-willed perfectionist, he had a talent for creating numerous inventions to make work life easier ( use your head, not your back ). Walter's professional skills also transferred into the artistic. He created a chain link figure E.T. mascot out of steel, which was a Snow Lake icon. Many people will continue to enjoy his well crafted ice shacks and fire pits. Walter had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed operating his new excavator, camping, fishing and roasting garlic sausages on an open fire. He shared every aspect of his life with Margaret, his wife of 16 years. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Green Acres Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with viewing one hour prior. Walter will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A very special thank-you to the Snow Lake Health Centre staff for the compassionate and dedicated care given to our Walter. We are especially grateful for the loving support that Dale and Judy Zimmer and Betty and Chester Rudd gave to Margaret during this difficult time.
