BEATRICE (BEA) COWLEY (published on January 10, 2009)

BEATRICE (BEA) COWLEY On Tuesday, January 6, 2009, As the sun fully broke the horizon, Bathed in a sea of warmth and light And with family at her side, Heaven claimed another Angel It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bea Cowley at St. Boniface General Hospital in the company of her family. Bea was predeceased by her husband Hugh Cowley and parents, Pete and Yvonne Levesque. She is survived by her son Scott Cowley and daughter-in-law Christine Wilson Cowley; daughter Sylvie (Marcel) Huot; grandchildren: Jocelyne (Mike) Lavich, Adam (Amanda) Huot, Danielle Wilson, Matthew Wilson and great-grandchildren, Julia Lavich and Andrew Lavich. Bea's accomplishments in life were numerous, each a reflection of her multifaceted and dynamic personality. For many years, she was a dedicated and loyal employee of the C.B.C and later, as human resource manager at St. Boniface General Hospital. Outside of work, she could be found campaigning for her favourite political party, directing and coordinating fashion shows and beauty pageants, volunteering for numerous charities, and even occasionally cast as an extra for Hollywood movies. Her passion for painting and sketching were always evident around the home and cottage. As an avid reader with a keen interest in current affairs, she would never miss an opportunity to debate or discuss politics. Also, as many would attest, she possessed an uncanny sixth sense that would baffle any skeptic. Her greatest achievements however were as a wife and mother. Her devotion to family was unmatched. Never too busy to help, console or support, she could be counted on anytime. Her positive and outgoing personality and sincere compassion for others, combined with a wonderful sense of humour was always uplifting and heartening. Second to family was her love and dedication to friends. A special thank you, to the Voyageur Girls and the Over the Hill Gang for your loyalty and friendship over the decades. The family would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to the following: Dr. Pat Harris and the incredibly dedicated staff at Concordia Hospital Oncology Department, Dr. Alecs Chochinov and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Ward 5E St. Boniface Hospital, Dr. Turnly Wong, nurses and all support staff. Their compassion, professionalism and support during these very difficult times was appreciated and paramount in helping the family cope. Also to the staff of Poseidon Care Centre and Foyer Valade, thank you for your outstanding work and genuine caring for patients and their families. A funeral mass celebrating Bea's extra-ordinary life will be held today Saturday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Road. Her spirituality and commitment to her faith was central to her throughout her life and enabled her to embrace her passage to the hereafter with courage and great dignity. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bea's honour may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, 409 Taché Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2H 2A6.
