STEWART GRAHAM WILCOX (published on January 10, 2009)

STEWART GRAHAM WILCOX June 29, 1934 - January 5, 2009 Sadly after a long battle with cancer, Stewart passed away on January 5th, 2009 at the age of 74. He was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Winifred, daughter Jennifer (Craig), son Garth (Lee), grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Jordan, Anna. He graduated from Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate in 1953 and played on their championship football team. He then graduated from Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba in 1958. Stewart had an exceptionally positive and influential impact on the practice of pharmacy within Manitoba and the rest of Canada. Stew has always been a powerful advocate for the profession and made many presentations provincially and nationally. Some of his greater achievements include being a founding member of the Manitoba Society of Pharmacists in 1973, which during this term, he helped establish the Pharmaceutical Act. He also served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Pharmaceutical Association. He was awarded Manitoba Pharmacist of the Year in 1986. He also established an Undergraduate Award in the Faculty of Pharmacy at U of M. Stewart was appointed the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association Registrar in 1983, where he served with distinction until his retirement in 1999. His passion and commitment to Pharmacy was clearly identifiable. Stewart's other passion in life was football. He was on the Board of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for 15 years, and held season tickets for over 50 consecutive years. He was also a long time member of the St. Boniface Golf Course, and was a member of a local Kiwanis Club. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his music, collecting books, and going to the movies with his son. He also enjoyed playing with and caring for his grandchildren. In this past year, he was very proud to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary and to receive his 50 year Membership Pin from the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association. Stew's Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, at the Caboto Center, 1055 Wilkes Avenue. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be sent to the Victoria General Hospital Oncology Department. A special thank you to Dr. Maxwell, Nurse Ann, the staff at the Oncology Department and the staff on the 5th Floor North Wing. He will be sadly missed.
