VITA PARKS (published on January 10, 2009)

VITA PARKS (nee RESNIK) Peacefully on January 1st, 2009 at the Sharon Home, Vita Parks passed away at the age of 84. Predeceased by her husband Sydney and her sister Lila Winkler, Vita is survived by her children Sheldon, Paula and Louis (Hildy) and her grandchildren Andrew, Adam and Sam. Vita was born to Louis and Ray Resnik on October 3rd, 1924. She spent her entire life in Winnipeg, attending Machray School and St. John's Tech. Vita married Sydney in 1953 and together they enjoyed a wonderful life until his passing in 1998. Following high school, Vita started working as a bookkeeper at Manitoba Upholstery, going on to sell real estate at Select Realty when her children were young. Years later, after her involvement with Ramah School's PTA and the Jewish School Board, she went back to bookkeeping, working at several businesses such as Bird Construction, Teshmont Engineers and Park Realty. Vita volunteered from a young age and continued to contribute her time and energy throughout her life to a variety of boards and committees of charitable organizations and service groups. These included Hadassah, Shaarey Zedek Sisterhood, Technion, the Winnipeg Art Gallery and Combined Jewish Appeal. Vita was a devoted wife and mother, who always supported her children in whatever endeavour or direction of life they chose. She enjoyed people and people enjoyed her. The friendships and bonds Vita made during her lifetime were a great source of joy. These were reflected in her own warm and generous spirit. Vita was always open to meeting someone new and during her years as a resident of the Sharon Home, she was pleased to meet and introduce her most recent friends to her family. Funeral services were held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Sunday January 4th, conducted by Rabbi Lawrence Pinsker. Pallbearers were Ira Micay, Jeff Kliman, Tom Blouw, Jeffrey Hershfield, Bill Shragge and Debra Black. Donations in Vita's memory may be made to the Sydney and Vita Parks Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, the Sharon Home or a charity of your choice. Her children, especially her daughter Paula, would like to thank the aides, nurses, Susan Deacon, Dr. Pacin and all the staff at the Sharon Home for their kind and compassionate care. We will be forever grateful to all of you.
