WENDY LYNN SIGMAR (published on January 10, 2009)
WENDY LYNN SIGMAR (MARTELL) On January 7, 2009 with sunshine pouring into her room, Wendy went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ after a lengthy illness. Like everything you did, sweetheart, you gave it everything you had and we searched the four corners of the earth in an effort to fix you as I had always put it. In the end it was not to be and you bravely accepted your fate with a constant concern only for your family. Your time on earth was well spent my love - a life filled with doing for others that amazed everyone around you. You were always the person I hoped I could one day be. Your integrity, honesty and thoughtfulness were qualities that drew people near to you. Nothing was too much of a problem, hassle or inconvenience for you. When volunteers were asked for at school, church or the kids sports teams you were always the first in line and happy to go beyond the call of duty. You will be forever missed by husband Derrick; sons Thor (12) and Axel (10); sister Shelley (Peter) Senchuk and children Megan and Branden; brother Bob (Jan) Martell; father Bill (Mavin) Martell and children Treva and Randall. Wendy was predeceased by her mother Christine. Skate Sweetie ! and Run Sweetie ! will no longer be heard throughout the hockey rinks and football fields of Winnipeg as that was Wendy's cheer for her two boys who she loved and cherished so much. Her motherly devotion was immeasurable when it came to Thor and Axy and her influence in their young lives will be with them forever. Wendy loved to spend time either at home or at the cottage at Falcon Lake with her family. On the last day of school, Wendy's van was always packed full for the lake when she picked up the boys from school to begin summer holidays. Home or the lake, Wendy loved to have friends over for drinks, dinner and a ton of laughs. Her infectious personality would put everyone in a good mood and her laughter was constant. Wendy worked for many years in the Real Estate industry as a Real Estate Appraiser and was highly respected for her fairness, leadership and professionalism. She spent the last number of years working at the Municipal Board for the Province of Manitoba as a chairperson, hearing assessment appeals. Wendy loved the time she spent at the Board and enjoyed so many of the people she met there. She was called upon many times to handle high profile appeals due to her extensive knowledge in the evaluation of real estate. The support Wendy and our family received from our friends, St. Emile School and the community was touching to say the least. The neverending passing of kind words and genuine concern has made a permanent mark on our family. Many thanks to the staff at 3E Riverview Palliative Care Ward for their tremendous loving care for Wendy in her final days. God must have needed an executive assistant and he won't be sorry for his choice. Wendy always believed it is what you give in this life that makes it meaningful. In the spirit of this wonderful lady, do something for someone else today. A celebration of Wendy's life will take place at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St. at the corner of Dakota and Southglen at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009. Pallbearers are Wendy's great friends: Dave and Brynne MacKenzie, Linda Davidson, Karen Daenick, Kim Groshak and Heather Winch. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO.
