WALTER STANLEY MALKOWICH (published on January 16, 2009)

WALTER STANLEY MALKOWICH It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, gigi and brother on January 12, 2009. Walter was born on May 10, 1925 and lived most of his life in Fisher Branch, which he was proud to call home. He was predeceased by his parents Dan and Elizabeth, brothers Bill and Nick, father-in-law and mother-in-law Nick and Mary Minchuk, brother-in-law Tom Minchuk and sister-in-law Jean Kempa. Walter leaves to celebrate his life, his devoted wife of 55 years Joanne, sons Daniel (Maureen), Ronald (Cindy), Walter (Katrina), Gary and Brian; his precious grandchildren Brittany, Addison, Garrett, Harlen, Taylor and Talia. He is also survived by siblings Harry (Olga) Malcowich, Lovey (John) Kuryk, Augustine (Ed) Konopetcki, Steven (Joanne) Malkowich, Fred (Shirley) Malkowich, sister-in-law Kathie (Gerry) Akerstream and numerous nieces and nephews. In his earlier years, Walter worked at many different jobs, from an iron worker to cutting pulp in Ontario. Shortly after his marriage to Joanne, Walter purchased Rabbit Hill in Fisher Branch and took up farming. This is where they raised their family. After farming, being one who had to keep busy, Walter started salvaging scrap metal. Whether it was snow or garbage removal or lending a hand when needed, you could always count on Walter. His word was gold, his strength being his family and friends. The family would like to thank Home Care, Percy E. Moore Hospital and the people of Fisher Branch for their countless acts of generosity. Whether it was to drive Walter to an appointment, grocery shop or to help haul scrap metal, you were there. A special thank you to the Fisher Personal Care Home who cared for Walter in the last few weeks with every smile and kind gesture, you showed him respect and allowed him to remain in town with those he loved. A celebration of Walter's life will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Ukrainian National Home in Fisher Branch with Fr. Harry Chuckry presiding. Urn bearer will be his special niece Gail Nahuliak. If friends desire, a donation can be made in Walter's memory to the Fisher Personal Care Home, Box 119 Fisher Branch, Manitoba, R0C 0Z0. Interment will take place at a later date. Keep care Dad, we love you . Vichnaya Pamyat
