HAROLD KENNETH SAWATZKY (published on January 16, 2009)



HAROLD KENNETH SAWATZKY 1944 - 2009 Peacefully and embraced by his family on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, God opened His loving arms and took Dad home. Harold was a charter member of the Winkler Lions Club and very active in fundraising for the Lions Manor. He also enjoyed his sports. As an avid curler, he was involved with the Winkler Curling Club and served as a Treasurer for many years. In his younger years, he played hockey for the Winkler Royals. He also loved playing golf and participated in the International Golf Tournament for many years. Harold spent his business years in Winkler as partner and subsequent owner of Centennial Supply, a Petro-Canada distributor where he established a reputation for honesty, fairness and integrity with his employees and customers. Following his retirement, he took up carpentry and took great pride in constructing a new cottage at Falcon Lake. He also helped his friends with their construction projects. He cherished his time spent at the lake with family and very close friends. Harold also loved to travel with his wife to Vancouver, Montreal, Hawaii and as far as South Africa. Horse, as he was known by most will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary (nee Voth) of Winkler; daughter, Dale and Eric Fryatt of Vancouver, BC; son, Tom and Lise Sawatzky of Winnipeg, two sisters, four brothers, five sisters-in-law, seven brothers-in-law and their families, as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Marge Sawatzky and brother-in-law, Dennis Bueckert. Viewing will be on Friday, January 16 (today) at Wiebe Funeral Home, 121-8th St. in Winkler from 1:00 p.m. til 9:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church, 252-6th St. and interment at Westridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Horse's memory to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Unit, Box 2000, Winkler, MB R6W 1H8.
