JEAN HAMBLEY VAN WYCK (published on January 17, 2009)
JEAN HAMBLEY VAN WYCK 1909 2009 Peacefully, on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the Carman Memorial Hospital with her loved ones present. Jean was predeceased by her husband Edgar in 1994 and is survived by her son Bill (Loreen) and daughters, Donna (Barry) Iliffe, Eleanor (Vernon) Bond and Maureen (Alan Roy) Van Wyck. Granny will be dearly remembered by her 13 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Jean was so very proud of each one and loved them all dearly. Jean was born in the town of Swan Lake, Manitoba, moving to Roland in 1920. She married in 1930 and remained in the Roland community, raising her children and running the farm with her dear husband Edgar. A well respected and active member of her community and United Church, a Women's Auxiliary member and the first president of the U.C.W., Jean also taught sewing in the 4-H Club and supported her children through many 4-H activities. In summer, her garden was a joy to all as were her beautiful flowers and plants. During the winter, activities included many curling evening and journeys to the East or West Coasts visiting loved ones. Listing Jean's accomplishments doesn't scratch the surface of who she really was. Jean was a true nurturer who lived every day with an attitude of gratitude. She was a joyful and peaceful presence, loving and generous to all. Her faith in God, and personal fortitude helped her weather many hardships.... a true pioneer spirit. Funeral Service will be held at the Roland United Church on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Chuck Ross and Shirley McLaren officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery Roland. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Roland United Church, the Boyne Lodge, or to a charity of one's choice. An angel on earth and now in heaven God be with you til we meet again. Doyle's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. (www.doyleschapels) |
