WILBERT E.A. KNOX (published on January 17, 2009)

WILBERT E.A. KNOX February 4, 1928 January 11, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear father Wilbert on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. Wilbert is survived by his loving wife Nora; sons Robert (Elizabeth) of Saskatoon, Walter (Susan) of Calgary, younger brother David (Marcy) of Winnipeg; three grandchildren Danielle of Vancouver, Cary and Brianna of Calgary and great-granddaughter Julia of Vancouver; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Len Horn of Winnipeg Beach, MB; Eleanor Knox of Vernon BC. Wilbert was predeceased by his parents Florida and Elford; younger brother Walter and eldest son Gary. Wil grew up in Winnipeg and had many fond memories attending Kelvin High School and growing up in Fort Rouge. Wil spent his entire career as an accountant. He first saw the love of his life Nora while auditing her firm's books. Wil and Nora would later meet at Grand Beach, marrying in 1950. Wil would spend his early years in Northern Ontario as an accountant in the mining industry. Later he would help pioneer the mutual fund business in Thunder Bay. Wil and Nora later returned to Winnipeg where they finished raising there three sons. In his youth, Wilbert was quite athletic playing catcher at baseball into his twenties and excelling in pool and golf well into his later years. Wil remained an avid sports enthusiast all his life. His other passions include winemaking, reading, philosophy, gardening, photography, astronomy, politics and the opera. During retirement, Wilbert continued to offer his accounting and winemaking expertise to friends and family. In 2002, Wilbert and Nora moved to Saskatoon to be closer to son Robert and daughter-in-law Elizabeth. Wil enjoyed all the amenities and laid back lifestyle Saskatoon offered. Many thanks to the kind staff at the Regina General Hospital and Saskatoon's St. Paul's Hospital for the compassionate care Dad received for the past four months. At Wil's request there will not be a funeral service. A celebration of Wilbert's life will be held by family and friends later in Winnipeg.
