ROBERT (BOB) WILLIAM THOMPSON (published on January 17, 2009)

ROBERT (BOB) WILLIAM THOMPSON On January 15, 2009, Bob Thompson, aged 80 years, of Winnipeg and formerly of Selkirk, passed away at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg. Bob was born in Russell, Manitoba on April 6, 1928. He grew up in Winnipeg and as a young man began his career in the electrical business. Work took him to Gull Lake, Saskatchewan where he met Ann. When they moved to Winnipeg in 1949, Bob began his Manitoba Hydro career as a lineman and retired as the Eastern Region Director, 38 years later. His dedication to work was matched by his dedication to community, where he actively served with many organizations, including his local Chamber of Commerce, the Silver Heights and Selkirk United Churches, and the Selkirk Rotary Club. Many will recall his sportsman's passions: golf, curling and fishing. Never one to shy away from involvement, Bob's love of flying brought him to the Winnipeg Flying Club where he spent many hours, including as President. His favourite times were at dinner tables, filled with friends, family and laughter. He leaves a large hole in all our hearts. Bob is survived by his wife Ann, children Jim (Shirley), Tom (Melanie) and Mary Ann (Alain) and grandchildren Chris (Trisha), Michelle, Jesse and Roberta. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Eva (nee Jenner). Cremation has taken place and a Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Selkirk United Church, 221 McLean Avenue, Selkirk with Rev. Deborah Vitt officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
