AILEEN RUBY BUCKLER (published on January 17, 2009)

AILEEN RUBY BUCKLER (nee ARCHIBALD) It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ruby on January 12, 2009 at the age of 86 years. Ruby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 61 years, Stewart, children Peters (Pat), Rilla (Lorne), Candy (Kent), grandchildren Theresa (Kerry), Melissa (Peter), Reece, Megan and great-granddaughter Tessa, sister Wilma, sister-in-law Rene (Norm) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Alice, brothers Eric, William and Roy and sisters Phyllis, Roma and Neta. Born and raised in Plumas, Manitoba, Ruby later moved to Winnipeg to attend Wesley College. Upon graduation she worked as a secretary for the dieticians at the Deer Lodge Hospital. After marrying Stewart in 1947 and settling into their dream home on the river, family became her priority. She devoted herself to providing a nurturing home for her husband, children, friends and loving cats, Scamper and Champagne. Ruby had a variety of interests including painting, ceramics, reading, cards and bowling. As an avid bowler she received several awards over the years. Gardening, however, was her greatest passion. Ruby loved her cottage and cherished time spent at Twin Beaches each summer with family and friends. Blessed with a green thumb she took special joy in tending her flower and vegetable gardens. The birds and chipmunks which she cared for always brought a smile to her face. Her greatest source of pride and joy were her grandchildren. She spent many hours playing, reading and walking with them. Her strength of character and devotion to family were an inspiration to us all. We will hold her memory close to our hearts forever. The family would like to thank Dr. Penner and the staff of the 5th floor south at Victoria Hospital for the care and kindness they gave to Mom. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Ruby's life will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or The Winnipeg Humane Society. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
