CLARISSE BUYDENS (nee VAN DER VENNET) Peacefully at the Poseidon Care Centre on Thursday, January 15, 2009, Clarisse Buydens of Winnipeg passed away at the age of 87. She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Gerard (Jean) of Victoria, BC, Germaine Sinclair of Winnipeg, Remi of Lantzville, BC, Jerome of Winnipeg, Katharine (Rene) Bernard of Winnipeg, Archie (Barbara) of Winnipeg and daughter-in-law Katrina (Robert) Barnes of Massachusetts. Fourteen Grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah, Lois, Darrin (Mandi), Susan, Kevin (Tanya), Dana, Keith, Lauren, Michael, Randy, Gary, Christina (Scott), Brent and three great-granddaughters, Amanda, Ashley and Sydney. Her brother Andre and sister-in-law Terry, and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Rene in 1932 and Emily (nee Timmerman) in 1974, her children Ernest 1968, Lucien in 1972 and Doreen in 1994 as well as great-granddaughter Renee in 1987. Her brothers Cyriel in 1945, George and Jules in 1990, and Maurice in 1996. Her sisters Mary (VanDenBosch) in 2002 and Julia (Garland) in 2006. Brothers-in-law Henry Garland in 1973 and Albert Vandenbosch in 1999. Clarisse was born on April 16, 1921 in Bruxelles to Rene and Emily Van Der Vennet (nee Timmerman). She grew up in Bruxelles, Manitoba and attended school in Bruxelles and St. Alphonse. On December 22nd, 1939 she married Gaston Buydens and devoted her time to raising her family and farming in the St. Alphonse area. In 1944 they relocated to the Treherne area. Clarisse moved to Winnipeg in 1973 where she was employed by MTS. Retiring in 1987 to spend additional time with her grandchildren. The last five years Clarisse has resided at the Poseidon Care Centre. Clarisse was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had numerous friends which she enjoyed talking to for extended periods by phone while knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed making a variety of clothing including afghans, socks, mitts to ensure her grandchildren were kept warm. Clarisse's hobbies included gardening, travelling and visiting her many friends at the St. Ignatius Club. Special thanks to the staff at the Poseidon Care Centre for the care and love shown to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Also a special thank you to her companions that will miss her dearly, Cindy Strange and Rachelle Hoffman. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Funeral Mass will be held at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22 with viewing one hour prior to the service. As per her wishes, cremation will take place and interment at a later date.
