WILLIAM WALTER BODNER Peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2009, William Walter Bodner, dearly beloved husband of Elizabeth, passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving father to his children, Linda (Larry), Randy and Gary (Theresa). He was dearly loved by his grandchildren, David (Kerri), Jeff, Kevin, Adam and Amanda. Also mourning are his siblings, Olga Oberick and Mike (Theresa), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends. William was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Frances Bodner; father-in-law John Gmitrowski; brothers-in-law, Frank Oberick, Tom Regula and Robert Gmitrowski; and sister-in-law Millie Gmitrowski. William was born in Chicago and at the age of three moved back with his family to Melrose, MB. William, Olga and Mike shared many adventures growing up and working with their parents on the family farm. It was at Teddies Place, famous Tyndall dance hall, that William met Elizabeth, the love of his life. Many Kostinuk's barn dances later, they were married in Beausejour on August 2, 1952. They built a home and raised their family on the farm they started in Garson. From his early days of working with a horse, to enjoying afternoon drives checking crops in his favourite half ton, farming remained a passion for our Dad. William often spoke of his many years worked in the construction industry, which took him to many parts of Manitoba. Dad was a familiar face to many at the local hockey arena and athletic fields throughout the years as he supported his sons and later his grandchildren play hockey, broomball, football and baseball. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held at the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cooks Creek at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Honourary pallbearers will be William's grandchildren, David, Jeff, Kevin and Adam Pleskach, Amanda Bodner; his nephews, Ron, Rick and Wayne Oberick, Robert Carlson, Brian, Brad and Jeff Bodner. A special thanks for the care and compassion by Dr. Fuchs, Linda Borsa and the nursing staff at the Selkirk General Hospital.
