ERNEST ISAAK (published on January 28, 2009)

ERNEST ISAAK Surrounded by his family, Ernest Isaak passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on January 23, 2009. Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Marlene, daughters Lisa (Chris) and Alana (Jong Man Park), and grandchildren William and Ethan. Ernest was born on February 17, 1941 to Gerhard and Helena Isaak and grew up on a farm in Springstein, Manitoba. He was the fourth child of seven children and enjoyed his rural upbringing in which hard work, family, church and sports were central. He attended Springstein School until grade 11 before completing his grade 12 year at MBCI. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with both an Arts and an Education Degree. Most of Ernie's teaching career was at Vincent Massey Collegiate where he spent 33 years sharing his love for literature with students. During these years he coached volleyball and badminton and chaperoned school trips to Mexico, Spain and Germany. In 1980 Ernie and his family first attended a family camp at Star Lake Lodge. This began a life-long involvement with the camp. Ernie had a deep love for God's creation and Star Lake became a natural place for him to serve. Star Lake was a very special place for Ernie and he greatly enjoyed the fellowship, Christian teachings and outdoor activities. Ernie will be remembered for his ready smile, his quick wit and his eternal optimism. Throughout this difficult illness, his gentle and kind spirit remained which was a true testimony of his faith. Ernie will be greatly missed but never forgotten. The family would like to thank the Palliative Home Care Program and the staff on the Palliative Care Ward at St. Boniface Hospital. Your help allowed Ernie to spend Christmas at home and die peacefully in hospital. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to Star Lake Lodge, Family Camp.
