ELLA G. TRICK (published on January 31, 2009)

ELLA G. TRICK (nee KENNING) Surrounded by the love of her family, Ella died peacefully on January 23, 2009 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Beloved wife for 56 years of Gordon S. Trick. Mother of Charles (and Irena Creed) of London, ON; David (and Julie Jai) of Toronto; Michael (and Ilona Weyers) of Pittsburgh; and Janice (and Jean-Marc Gagnon) of Ste. Agathe. Grandmother of Chris, Mathieu, Janelle, Nico, Naomi and Alexander. Also survived by many other relatives, as well as friends in Stonewall and Winnipeg. Ella was born in 1929, the eleventh and youngest child of Karst and Jeltje Kenning. She was raised on family farms in the Rosser and Rockwood areas and moved to Stonewall with her parents in 1950. Ella married Gordon in 1952, and they lived in England, Alberta and Ohio. In Ohio Ella was busy raising four children but also gave freely of her time for the YWCA and Boy Scouts and sang in the choir of the Cuyahoga Falls First United Methodist Church. Ella and Gordon returned to Winnipeg with their family in 1971, and Ella became involved in designing and building the family home in south St. Vital. She was skilled in crafts and gardening, volunteered at Victoria Hospital, and wrote a history of the Kenning family in Canada. She attended St. Vital United Church and then St. Mary's Road United Church. After 1994 Ella had many health problems but managed them with optimism and her usual infectious smile. The family thanks the many friends and caregivers who assisted Ella during her illness, and especially the staff of Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre who eased her last days. Cremation has taken place with burial at Stonewall Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Rd. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to Siloam Mission or to St. Mary's Road United Church. MacKenzie Funeral Service, Stonewall, is in care of arrangements (204-467-2525).
