JESSIE TOMIUK (published on January 31, 2009)

JESSIE TOMIUK (nee SCHICK) October 24, 1928 January 27, 2009 After a brief and courageous fight with cancer, Jessie passed away at home in her sleep, Tuesday morning, January 27, 2009 at the age of 80. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Jerry in 1996. Her mother Katherine passed away when Jessie was a young girl. She leaves to mourn her passing four sons, Ernie (from Canmore, Alberta), Victor (Stephanie), Gordon (Cindy), Terry (Melissa); grandchildren, Curtis, Cassandra, Jennifer, Anthony, Andrew; one brother Stan Schick (Joyce), several close cousins who were like brothers and sisters to her, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jessie loved her time at the family cottage in Sandy Hook and her two feline companions Cotton and Storm. Jessie loved to dance and she was a very committed member of the Manitoba Folk Dancers, a seniors dance group that travelled and entertained other seniors. She made many long lasting friendships through the folk dancers. Jessie spent many years at Eaton's selling sewing machines and then providing sewing lessons, a career that she loved. Mom and Dad sacrificed a lot to provide their four sons with swimming lessons, music lessons and various opportunities to enrich their lives. Mom, know that the four of us are eternally grateful for all you did for us over the years. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lee and his staff, the Grace Hospital 4th floor staff, the palliative care staff, home care workers and Doug and Todd from Dignity Memorial Transfer Service. Flowers are gratefully declined. If one wishes, donations in Jessie's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 2B7 or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6. To honour Jessie's request, a private family service and cremation have already taken place.
