J. DAVID MCLEOD (published on January 31, 2009)
J. DAVID McLEOD January 4, 1966 - January 29, 2009 It is with deep sadness that we announce that David passed away peacefully, on January 29, 2009. David was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. He graduated with his PhD from the Department of International Politics, Aberystwyth, Wales and his BA and MA, Department of Politics, University of Manitoba. David's career path kept him in the university world where he enjoyed working in roles which had an international component. His outstanding leadership skills were evident to all who had contact with David both in his career and volunteer roles. David accomplished a great deal in the time that he had with us. In addition to his academic career, he became an accomplished bag piper, enjoyed curling, received his Chief Scout award and had incredible carpentry skills with an ability to build anything. In 1989, David met and married his best friend and sole mate, Carol Manson in Winnipeg. They had the good fortune to live in several locations while pursing their life together: Aberystwyth, Wales, UK; Brandon, MB and now Edmonton, AB. David's outgoing and caring personality ensured that he made lasting friendships wherever they lived. In David's own words, the legacy that he leaves behind is his beloved family. David is survived by his wife Carol, their three amazing children: Rhiannon, Caitlin and Andrew. His mother, Carole and dad John Cox; sisters - Kristen Verin-Treusch (Nicole), Janelle McLeod (Scott); grandmother Marjorie Treusch; father-in-law Jack (Corinne) Manson; brother-in-law Scott (Patti) Manson and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and friends. Throughout David's illness he was overwhelmed with the depth and breadth of caring and compassion that his friends and colleagues had for him and his family. Both he and our family express our sincere gratitude. Also, we extend our appreciation to the numerous physicians and nurses who helped us on this journey. David worked tirelessly to promote international education, having benefited from it immensely over his career. To this end the family has established a scholarship in his name at the University of Manitoba. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to University of Manitoba, Department of Development, 179 Extended Education Complex, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 2N2. Please reference the J. David McLeod Scholarship Fund. A celebration of David's life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Centennial Auditorium, 205 - 20th Street, Brandon, MB.
