SALVACION (SALLY) MATUSALEM July 13, 1948 - January 28, 2009 It is with profound sadness that Sally's family announces her passing on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. She passed away at Health Sciences Center, 5th floor Women's Centre, surrounded by her family, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. It has been a little over a year since Sally's beloved husband of 38 years Edgar Sr. died. She was predeceased by her father Pablo and sister Elvira. She is survived by her loving daughter Johanni and son Edgar Jr. both living in Winnipeg, MB. She is also survived by her mother Cristina Rosario; sisters Lorna (Andrada) and Lolette (Villanueva), both living in the Philippines; brother Reynaldo (Virgie) Rosario, Vancouver, BC; sister Regina (Adore) Tahimic and brother Adolfo (Zenaida), both living in Winnipeg; brother-in-law Daniel (Loida) Matusalem, from Winnipeg; sister-in-law Norma from Italy; cousin Beth (Romeo) Calixto; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Sally was born in San Manuel, Pangasinan, Philippines and was the third child of seven siblings. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of the East, Manilla, Philippines in 1973. She met Edgar, the love of her life while living in Manilla. Sally immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1974 and Edgar and Johanni soon joined her. She worked for Tuxedo Villa as a Nurse's aid and in 1982 completed her certificate in Clerical Bookkeeping from Red River College. She was employed by Manitoba Co-operator as a Bookkeeper for many years until the age of 53. Sally's beautiful smile, contagious laugh, warmth, and presence will be deeply missed by all. She will be forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank the staff, caregivers, and nurses of WRS5 for the care and attention that was given to Sally. We would also like to thank Dr. Lotocki, Dr. Popowich, Dr. Dean, Dr. Krepart and the nurses from CancerCare. A special thanks goes out to Dr. Arab and to Jenna Yuen for making sure Sally was comfortable. Lamay will be held on Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7 starting at 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Service will be held on Monday, February 9 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edwards Church, 836 Arlington Street. A funeral procession to Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue will follow.
