NICK OLINEK (published on January 31, 2009)

NICK OLINEK In loving memory of Nick Olinek. He passed into the arms of the Lord, Thursday, January 29, 2009, peacefully, after a brief illness at Holy Family Nursing Home with his wife by his side. Nick leaves behind his best friend and loving wife, Darlene of over 45 years, his son Bradley and daughter-in-law Susan Janzen. Grampa Nusie was also a hero and mentor to his three grandchildren Nicolas, Ryan and Alisa. Due to countless hours Nick spent with his grandchildren, he has passed on many wonderful traits, with Ryan following in his footsteps as the mechanic of the family. He is also survived by his sister Jennie Anderson, sisters-in-law; Mary, Josie and Rita, as well as close extended family from Saskatchewan, and many nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by his parents and brothers; George, Jim, Mike and Harry. Nick grew up in Samburg, Saskatchewan and went out to work at an early age. He spent ten years in Port Alberni, BC, then went on to Ontario to work as a mechanic. He perfected his trade in Manitoba at Stephen's Auto Service on Henderson Hwy., then Eastern Sales, and retired in 1982 due to ill health. Our family would like to say a special thanks to each and every one of the nursing staff at Holy Family Home, as well as all the workers, housekeeping and kitchen staff. A very special thank you to David, who was always there for Nick. We also would like to thank the recreation worker, Connie who went above and beyond to bring out a smile. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nick's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
