DONA HILDA ST. GERMAIN (published on February 11, 2009)

DONA HILDA ST. GERMAIN March 29, 1923 - February 8, 2009 It is with great sadness that the St. Germain family announces the passing of Dona Hilda St. Germain on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Victoria General Hospital. Dona will be sadly missed by her children: Ray (Glory), Valerie and Judie (Bob); her grandchildren: Chrystal, Cathy, Ray Jr., D.J., Sherry, Chet, Melody, Monique, Jasmine, Angie and James; her great-grandchildren: Jeff, Jordan, Catie, Cody, Joshua, Dylan and Alaina; numerous nieces and nephews; and of course, her cat Ginger! Mom has left this world to join her husband, Simon Adrien (1995); sons, Jesse (2002) and Brian Whyte (Darlene) (2004); brother Joe (1986); and great-great grandson Dylan (2006). We can imagine her and dad kissing at the gate, with Mom in a classy scarf and brooch, arms outstretched to embrace Jesse and Brian once again. Married at the age of 16, she always told us that everyone thought she was too young and the marriage would never last, but they were wrong! Mom and Dad celebrated their 50th anniversary, and beyond. She had a long and happy life and she worked hard: first, raising four children on bannock and prayers, then taking in numerous grandchildren and other relatives who were down on their luck. Mom's basement was home to everyone at one time or another! An amazing friend with a warm heart, Mom will be missed for her gentle smile and positive attitude. The joy she brought to us all was immense. She always had an ear for everyone, and she had a great sense of humour. And when she was feeling better, she loved to shop! She enjoyed going to Wal-Mart heaven , and she especially liked a good sale! She always wanted you to have a cuppa tea and she loved talking on the phone with her loved ones. All the best family dinners were at her house (she made awesome mashed potatoes and roast!). Her children were her pride and joy and she always wanted her family around her. She also cherished her animals, caring for several cats and dogs over the course of her life. Many thanks to all the people who helped Mom, including Dr. Steven Morris; Jeanette and Odelia who gave her loving home care for two years so she could stay in her home, grandson James who watched over her at night while she was still at home; Dr. Cavers and all the nurses at Victoria Hospital (emergency and 4th floor), and all those who kept vigil at her bed. Special thanks also to niece Barb Kinnear for convincing Mom to go to the hospital, and to daughter Judie, who was always there for Mom. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mom's favourite charity, the Winnipeg Humane Society. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at Christ the King Parish, 847 St. Mary's Road on Thursday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m., with viewing to commence at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Renato Pasinato (Father Ron) presiding. Burial will follow at St. Vital Cemetery, followed by a light lunch at Christ the King Parish.
