HORTENSE SENECAL (published on February 12, 2009)



HORTENSE SENECAL (nee LAHAIE) May 13, 1928 - February 8, 2009 At her residence on Sunday, February 8, 2009, Hortense Senécal passed away at the age of 80 years. She was predeceased by her husband Léon in 1983. Hortense was the youngest sibling of seven children and has only one surviving brother, Louis (Régia) Lahaie. She married in 1949 and moved to St. Eustache, Manitoba, where Hortense and Léon raised nine children: Lucien (Pearl) Senécal, Gérald (Dianne) Senécal, Lorraine (Denis Beaudry), Edmond (Marilyn) Senécal, Diane (Gérald Bérard), Noella (Dirk Nyhof), Anita, Charles (Elaine) Senécal, Guy (Monique) Senécal, and Norman (Heather) Alain, a special nephew she called her own; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Born in St. Pierre on May 13, 1928, she graduated from Ecole Normale as a qualified school teacher. She was employed at the St. Eustache Elementary School for more than 25 years. Hortense enjoyed reading, playing cards, scrabble and outings with friends and family. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to no end and clearly this love was returned. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire, may make a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Society, 200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Prayers will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13 at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. also at Mary Mother of the Church on Saturday, February 14, with Father Carl Tarnopolski presiding. Private family interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date at St. Eustache Cemetery.
