FRANK SZUPO On Saturday, February 7, 2009, Frank passed away at the Holy Family Nursing Home at the age of 93. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Bernice Szupo (Wasney). Frank is survived by several nieces and nephews in Canada, as well as extended family in Poland. Frank was born the youngest of five children in Wilno Troki (Provine Wilenskii), Poland on January 26, 1916. In 1939 he joined the army in telecommunications division in Wilno where he took active part in defending Lwow. During the German-Russian war he was discharged from prison and joined the Polish Army in Russia. He travelled with the unit through the middle east to Italy where he again joined his army battalion and took part in the Battle of Monte Cassino. In 1946 after the war he came to Canada and worked on a farm for two years before moving to Winnipeg. He was a longtime employee of the C.P.R. until his retirement in 1972. Frank and Bernice were avid world travellers. They were lifelong members of the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue with viewing/Rosary prior at 9:30 a.m. Interment in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Special thanks go to the staff on St. Mary's Wing at Holy Family Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassion.
