STEWART LAWSON (published on February 14, 2009)

STEWART LAWSON March 5, 1921 - February 11, 2009 Stewart passed suddenly but peacefully the evening of Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at St. Boniface General Hospital after a brief stay there. Stewart was predeceased by his parents Robert and Sarah Lawson (nee Higgins) and his father and mother-in-law William and Annie Cameron. He was also predeceased by his three brothers, Bert, Hugh and David. Stewart leaves behind to celebrate his life and to keep his memory alive his wife of 63½ years, Margaret; his daughter Susan and husband Peter Hallenbeck and their children, Taylor and Graham of Surrey, B.C.; his next son Gordon Lawson of Saskatoon and his children, Cameron, Christian and Carly; and his youngest son David and wife Donna Lawson and their children, Roberta, Curtis, Jennifer and Kristen and great-grandchildren, Connor and Serena. There are also many nieces, nephews and great friends who will truly miss Stewart. Stewart lived all his life in St. James growing up on the same street as his wife Margaret where they initially met as children. Stewart joined the Royal Canadian Air Force to serve in the Second World War. Immediately on his return following the war Stewart and Margaret married in September 1945 and remained happy and committed to each other all these many years - raising their children and a happy and loving home. Following the war, Stewart went to work for Stovel-Advocate Press Company as a lithographer where he worked until his retirement in 1985 and a long career in the printing field. Stewart spent his retirement years happily working around the home and helping at St. James Presbyterian Church where the family had attend since the Second World War. In recent years Stewart took up wood carving which was a favourite hobby and pastime for him until his hands would no longer allow him to carve. Over the years he carved many different animals such as ducks, horses and buffalo but his favourite and specialty was his carved walking sticks that he loved to share and give to his many friends and his family. Stewart will be sorely missed by all who knew him, but we can all be comforted by knowing he is now sitting with God and Jesus watching over all of us. Special thanks go out to all the doctors, nurses and other health care providers at St. Boniface General Hospital, 5th Floor, B Wing who helped make Stewart's last few days comfortable and who showed so much caring to Stewart and to his family. In lieu of flowers, Stewart would have liked any donations to be made in his honour to St. James Presbyterian Church, 1476 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3G 0W3. Funeral services are under the care of Chapel Lawn and will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
