JACQUELINE VANKRIKEN (published on February 14, 2009)

JACQUELINE VANKRIKEN (nee GAUTHIER) Suddenly but peacefully on January 29, 2009, at the Victoria General Hospital, Jacqueline VanKriken passed away at the age of 77. Jacqueline was the youngest of 5 children, raised on a farm in Ste. Agathe, MB. Her parents were Ferdinand Gauthier and Corrine Lapointe. She excelled in school and after graduating she enrolled in 'Ecole Normale' after which she started teaching in rural MB and then moved into the City of Winnipeg where she taught for a total of 35 years. After retirement Jacqueline, who had a large circle of friends, from school teachers to parish priests, Belgium Club members, and numerous friends from France and Belgium, visited and chatted with them on a regular basis. She enjoyed reading her newspaper from cover to cover every morning and finished by doing the crossword puzzle and the word jumble. Conversations with Jacquie were always lively as she had many interests and followed politics closely. Jacqueline had a great sense of humour and enjoyed being with family and friends. Whenever family gatherings were planned, Jacqueline would be the life of the party, as everyone enjoyed talking to her and enjoyed kibitzing with her. Jacqueline's beautiful smile, contagious laugh, warmth, and presence will be deeply missed by all. She will forever be in our hearts. Jacqueline was predeceased by her first husband Hubert VanKriken, and their son Maurice, and her second husband Stan Wur, her sister Denise (Roland Gagnon) and Thérèse (Lucien Desrosiers) and her brother Henri (Germaine Gauthier). She will be deeply missed by her remaining sister Céline Catellier and her sister-in-law Germaine Gauthier. Jacquie was a devoted aunt to her many nieces and nephews from the families Catellier, Gagnon, Desrosiers and the Gauthier. She will also be fondly remembered by the Wur family. Cremation has taken place and the ceremony to celebrate Jacqueline's life will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at l'Eglise Catholique St. Eugène, 1007 St. Mary's Road with L'Abbé Carrière officiating. A eulogy will begin at 10:45 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. A gathering of family will follow in the Transcona Cemetery where Jacqueline will be laid to rest next to her cherished son, Maurice. LeClaire Brothers in care of arrangements 775-2220.
