JACK DUDECK (published on February 14, 2009)

JACK DUDECK Peacefully, on February 2, 2009, at St. Boniface Hospital, Jack Dudeck passed away at the age of 86. Jack was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Esther; his parents Isaac and Bryna and his brothers, Morris, Hymie and Max. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Anne; sister Paulee; children, Alan (Susan), Sheila (Mark) Lander, David (Laura) and Michael. He cherished his grandchildren, Matthew, Danielle, Heather, Michelle, Georgie, Sydney, Ally, and Oliver. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Jack was born in Winnipeg and graduated from St. John's Technical High School. A World War Two veteran, Jack married Esther Olin in 1947, started their family of four children, and initiated a long career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Well respected, Jack enjoyed success as an agent, manager and mentor, attaining C.L.U. designation. He retired in 1984, devoting his time to take care of Esther when she became ill. Jack participated in sports throughout most of his life. He was involved in curling, baseball, bowling and hockey as a player and coach. Jack endeared himself with his wonderful, unique and sometimes inappropriate sense of humour. He was a valued friend in many circles in the community. He could always be relied upon to provide leadership and support. He enjoyed his association with fellow war veterans of the General Monash Legion Branch, friends in the life insurance business, The Men's Lunch Group and the gang who met regularly for coffee at their reserved table at McDonald's. He volunteered for many organizations including CancerCare Manitoba as a driver, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Fifteen years ago he met and married Anne Floom. This gave Jack much happiness and joy. His enlarged family now included Anne's children, Tybie, Jerry (Rietta), Linda (Ray) Rutman and grandchildren, Lorne, Erin, Ari, Rachel, Tali, Evan and Leah. A special bond of many years existed between Jack and brother-in-law Dave Silver and his late wife Gertie. The family wish to thank the staff of Riverview Health Centre (3West), and St. Boniface Hospital (ER and 5B), for their respectful and compassionate care. The funeral was held at Congregation Etz Chaim on February 4, 2009, officiated by Rabbi Larry Lander and Cantor Tracy Kasner-Greaves. Pallbearers were Mark Lander, Jerry Floom, Joel Dudeck, Marshall Maslovsky, Avi Maslovsky and Brian Lerner. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Jewish National Fund or a charity of your choice.
