ISABELLE (IBBIE) MACKAY (published on February 14, 2009)

ISABELLE (IBBIE) MACKAY (PROCTOR) (nee HAMON) Peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, Ibbie passed away at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 82 years. Ibbie will be greatly missed by her children Barbara (David) Pavlich, Pam (Doug Beaudin) Proctor, Phil (Karen) Proctor; by her sister Barbara Aldous; her grandchildren Meaghan Buchanan, Stefan Buchanan, Jen (Steve Irvine) Beaudin, Heather Beaudin, Daniel Beaudin and Brian Pavlich; and step-children Douglas MacKay, Sheila Brownscombe and Leslie Chalke. She was predeceased by her son Don Proctor (1979), husband Don Proctor (1984) and husband Shane MacKay (2001). Born in Windsor, NS, Ibbie then moved to Virden, MB as a child and grew up in Winnipeg. She attended Rupert's Land School for Girls and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Home Economics. She married Don Proctor in 1946, and spent the next four years in Toronto while he earned his DDS. They returned to Winnipeg during the flood of 1950. After many years of community service (Junior League, Children's Theatre, St. George's Church), Ibbie entered the workforce as a Library Technician at Laidlaw School, retiring in 1990. Ibbie loved playing bridge, and had the ability to combine her expertise with humour and patience while introducing many people to the game. She will be greatly missed by her many bridge partners. Ibbie recently moved to Shaftesbury Park, but unfortunately was unable to fully enjoy the community and facilities. We extend our thanks to the staff for their attention and concern. She was also a great cook who would rather prepare a 10-course meal for twenty than create a single dessert, whether in her own kitchen at home or on the wood cookstove in the log cabin at Farlane, ON. Ibbie's funeral service will be held on Monday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m., at St. George's Anglican Church (Crescentwood), corner of Grosvenor and Wilton. Our thanks to the staff of the Renal Clinic at HSC (Dr. Don Allan, Ally, Lonnie, Cindy, Noreen and Lori) for their support over the last several months; and also to Dr. Kurt Penner and the staff of Unit 5 North, Victoria General Hospital for their care during this past week. We would also like to thank Cecile Ricard for her loving care over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ibbie's memory to the HSC Foundation/Renal Clinic, M.F. 7 - 820 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, R3A 1R9 or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wojcik's Funeral Chapel at 897 - 4665
