ELIZABETH (BETTY) MARTIN (published on February 25, 2009)

ELIZABETH (BETTY) MARTIN (nee SELCH) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Beausejour Hospital. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her children Jean (Wayne Erickson), Terry (Carol) Martin, Debbie Martin and Kathy (Garland Singbeil), her ten grandchildren Joyce (Barry) Peters, Brenda Holme, Kelly Erickson, Kyle, Brett and Justina Schewe, Shelley (Jodi) Braid, Erin, Cole and Owen Singbeil along with eight great-grandchildren Mathew, Nicole and Anthony Holme, Lacey and Tory Peters, Ashley Erickson, Jordan and Justin Braid. She is also leaving her beloved sisters Lily (Dan) Rosentreter, Dorthy Sachvie, Vangie Okolita and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Fred (June 14, 2006), her loving parents William and Alvina Selch and her brother Frederick who passed away in early childhood. Mom was born on September 6, 1923. She grew up on a farm in Green Bay with her three sisters, which she was especially close to. She married our dad on October 2, 1943. Together they raised a family, at times by herself because Dad would be in the bush camps or out working the draglines. Mom loved her garden and had numerous flowerbeds and planters at home and at the cabin, keeping both places in immaculate condition. She loved to knit and made numerous afghans. When family and friends would come to visit, mom always made sure they felt welcome. When dad started F.B. Martin Plumbing and Heating and Martin's pit, not only was mom a tremendous homemaker and caregiver but now was a bookkeeper and assisted the family business. Mom was hardworking, loving, and caring with a wonderful sense of humour. Even though she was always busy if you needed someone to talk to, she was always there to listen. Mom, we love you dearly and are going to miss you with all our hearts. We are sure dad will be waiting with his arms open for you. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27 at Zion Lutheran Church, Beausejour with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour and also at the church prior to the service. We would like to thank Dr. Zeiler and the nursing staff at the Beausejour Hospital for their compassion and care while mom was in the hospital. If friends and family so desire, donations may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
