PAUL OLEKSIUK (published on February 25, 2009)

PAUL OLEKSIUK After succumbing to his second bout of lung cancer some 15 years later, Paul passed away peacefully early Monday morning, February 23, 2009 at the Riverview Health Centre. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his daughter Joan Larson (Mike Allen); his sister Mary Wakula, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Kateryna and Stefan Oleksiuk; and his wife Helen. Paul was born in Maleb, Manitoba on July 28, 1925. He worked many years at GBR and Government Services making many friends along the way. He will be missed by his former colleagues and friends. Paul and Helen retired to a beautiful river front cottage in the late 1980s and had a wonderful time gardening and long walks together with their best friend Brutus, the Beagle. After the passing of Brutus, his presence was still felt and remembered on the personalized licence plates Brutus on Paul's vehicle. The three made many friends in and around Kenora and will be sadly missed by their friends there as well. The family would like to extend their thanks to all the wonderful people at Sterling House who made Dad and Mom's last few years most enjoyable; to the Riverview Health Centre for their patience and care of my Father; to the paramedics and the oh-so-many Medi-van drivers who were all very pleasant and reliable; to Friends Funeral Service for making this situation easier to handle. Flowers are gratefully declined. A donation may be made to a charity of your choice or any charity that aids in saving animals because Dad and Mom were very fond of animals. At Paul's request, a private viewing was held with cremation to follow.
