TERESA MARGARET STEFANSSON (published on February 25, 2009)

TERESA MARGARET STEFANSSON (nee MCCAFFERTY) Teresa Margaret Stefansson (nee McCafferty) passed away in St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, February 22, 2009 after a three year battle with cancer. Teresa was born on July 7, 1928 in Fort Frances, ON to Henry and Florence (Kelly) McCafferty. After successfully completing King's Business College in Port Arthur, ON, she came to Winnipeg in 1946 to work as a secretary at Anthes Foundry. In 1951, she joined Manitoba Bridge Engineering Works as Secretary to the General Manager and after their amalgamation with Dominion Bridge in 1979, transferred to Manitoba Rolling Mills, finally retiring in 1985. Teresa married Ken Stefansson on June 30, 1983 and he predeceased her on January 7, 2001. A kind, gentle and elegant lady, full of fun with a delightful sense of humour, Teresa was much loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed by her family and her wide circle of friends. She had an amazing generosity of spirit and when not helping others, she loved to read, to garden, and to travel both near and far. She is survived by her three nieces: Cheryl (Fred) Bickford, Kathy (Alasdair) Smith and Rosemary (Terry) Jorgenson, all of Thunder Bay, ON and her nephew Rex McCafferty of the Cayman Islands. Also surviving are her four grand-nieces: Kelly (Rob) Clifford (nee Smith); Leanne (Tom) Joseph (nee Bickford); Allison Smith and Erin (James) McCarron (nee Smith); her four grand-nephews: Sean Bickford; Rob Bickford; Murray (Hali) Smith and Paul Jorgenson, as well as six great-grand-nieces and nephews. Surviving also is her sister-in-law Ethel Vernon (nee Stefansson); and many cousins including: Gladys (Ted) Lynch; Gen Essery; Eileen Armstrong; Margie Warner; Helen (Ken) Porteous; Glen (Margo) Warner; and Jim (Gina) Warner. Teresa was predeceased by her parents; her husband Ken; her sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Alvin Johnson, and her brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Jean McCafferty. Funeral service will be held at St. John Brebeuf Church on Friday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. D. Ward Jamieson officiating. A private interment will follow at Thomson In the Park Cemetery.
