ARTHUR BUECKERT (published on February 25, 2009)

ARTHUR BUECKERT 1941 - 2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Bueckert, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, after a long-fought courageous battle with cancer, February 22, 2009 at the St. Boniface General Hospital, at the age of 67 years. Born in Winnipeg, Arthur spent his childhood years in North Kildonan. He attended Manitoba Teachers' College, where he met the love of his life, Gayle. They married in May, 1962 and have celebrated 46 years of marriage. Together they proudly raised two lovely daughters, Kerri and Suzanne. Arthur's teaching profession spanned from Bield, Niverville, Hazelridge and Donald, before he and Gayle settled in St. James. He enjoyed many years of teaching at Sansome, Bruce and Hedges Middle Schools, while also earning a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Pedagogy from University of Manitoba. His interest in the gaming industry led him to own and operate his own fun casino business, Casinos Royale, for 25 years. His passion for golf and being a member at Breezy Bend Country Club were immense. He lived for his regular daily tee times with long-time golfing buddies. He was an active Board member of the Club for many years and a proud member of the Tartans Men's League. He also spent countless hours volunteering at the course for tree removal projects. He loved taking part in club tournaments and events. Arthur's love of travel led him and Gayle on memorable vacations in Hawaii and several trips throughout the United States. They burned up the pavement on Highway No. 1 to and from Calgary over the years to visit their daughters and more recently the apples of his eyes, his two granddaughters. Remaining to forever cherish Arthur's memory are his loving wife Gayle; daughters, Kerri (Jeff Tareta) and Suzanne (fiancé Andrie Bodnar); granddaughters, Megan and MacKenzie Tareta; sisters, Helen, Anne (Jim); brother Leonard (Marie); sisters-in-law, Agatha, Tina, Ella, Lynne (Lawrence), Susan (Alex), Kimberly (Jim); and brother-in-law Todd (Cheryl), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Anna Bueckert; brothers, Jake, Pete and John; sisters, Margaret and Christina; brother-in-law Jake Braun; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Stella Kendall; and infant granddaughter Taylor Tareta. His love and passion for life will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank Dr. Harris and staff of Grace CancerCare and Dr. Yaffe and nurses and staff of 7A West at the St. Boniface General Hospital for their utmost dedication to his care. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue across from Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be forwarded gratefully in memory of Arthur to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or Canadian Blood Services, 777 William Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 3R4.
