JOSIE TARAS (published on February 25, 2009)

JOSIE TARAS (nee KOWALSKI) 1920-2009 Peacefully, at Concordia Hospital, on February 22, 2009, our mother, Josie Taras, 88 years old, passed away with her children at her side. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jessie Taras and Theresa Zabowski and her son Wayne (Debbie); four grandchildren, David and Kristy Zabowski, Vicki (Phil) Buechler and Brandi Taras (Chris) and two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Kaleb Buechler. Mom was predeceased by her husband and best friend of 50 years, Frank, in 1990, her son-in-law, Ron Zabowski, her parents, Peter and Mary Kowalski and her four brothers and three sisters. Mom was born and lived her entire life in the Oakbank area. When she was ready to leave the family farm she moved to Kin Place in April 2003, where she was embraced by a warm and caring community of staff and other residents. She was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always supported her children in all their endeavors, and made many happy childhood memories, in particular, birthdays. Even when times were difficult there was always a store bought birthday cake with our names on it and jello - each of her children feeling very special and much loved. Her skill as a baker and a gardener were unsurpassed. She loved her soaps , word puzzles and especially playing cards. It is truly believed she and Dad and those she loved who preceded her have shuffled the deck and the sound of pook-pook , shouting and laughter eases our hearts but oh we will miss her! We would like to thank Dr. Pilat and the staff of Concordia Hospital for their kindness and support to our Mother and us. Prayers and visitation will be at Klassen Funeral Home on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009 at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Cooks Creek, MB with Father Charles Fillion officiating. Interment to follow in Bird's Hill Park Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined, for those so desiring, donations may be made in Mom's memory to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald St., R3C 1M4 or to a charity of one's choice.
