JEAN (JENNIE) PODOLCHUK (published on February 28, 2009)

JEAN (JENNIE) PODOLCHUK Peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, our dear Mother and Baba Jean Podolchuk (Jennie) left for her eternal home from the Whitemouth Personal Care Home at the age of 94 years. Mom was born on a farm near Whitemouth on July 5, 1915 to immigrant parents Stefan and Maria Tesluk. She met and married the love of her life John Podolchuk at what is now St. Vladymir and Olga Cathedral in Winnipeg on July 15, 1936. Their unity was blessed with a daughter Patricia (Patsy) and son Jacob (Jack). Mom loved to cook while Daddy cherished his garden. She loved company and many interesting poker games were held on their kitchen table. Besides bingo, her cards were close to her heart with her children till her Golden Years. Mom's life was shattered on the evening of June 25, 1989 when she suddenly lost her devoted husband. Mom's world fell apart and was unable to live alone and moved to the Riverbend Manor in Whitemouth. In 2001, she became a resident of the Personal Care Unit also in Whitemouth where she lived until her demise. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her brother William and sisters Anne Blasko and Kay Tesluk and infant granddaughter Tanis. She leaves cherished memories for her daughter Patsy and husband Ed Kozak and son Jack Podolchuk and wife Pat. She was a loving Baba to Judy (Bob), Laurie (Rob), Audrey (Glenn), Tammy (Tony), Ryan (Athina), Ashley (Brent) and Kevin, nine great-grandchildren and three precious great great-grandchildren. Mom was a lifetime member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Elma. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2 at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Elma, MB with Rev. Fr. Doug Leclair officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Parish Cemetery. Prayers will be said on Sunday, March 1 at 6:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour, MB. Our thanks to Dr. Spence and to the staff for their kindness shown to Mom and to us in these trying times. Special thanks to Lillian and Leni. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 9Z9.
