HELENA BATENCHUK (published on March 05, 2009)

HELENA BATENCHUK Peacefully, at the Concordia Care Home, Helena passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the golden age of 94 years, surrounded by loving nurses and care attendants. Remaining to forever cherish Helena's memory are her caring brother Peter (Ann) Ryback and loving sister Stella (Paul) Zacharuk. She was predeceased by her loving husband Julie Batenchuk; brothers, John Ryback and Frank Ryback and dear sisters, Anne, Nellie and Katie. Helena was employed at the Bay, Eaton's and Winnipeg Post Office. Feeding her birds was calming and meditative for her and she felt closer to God. She had a deep spiritual connection to the land and she loved all of God's critters. Helena will be remembered as a woman of great strength, very ambitious, energetic, feisty and confident. She was an individual with a strong character, very self reliant and very much a non conformist and enjoyed freedom. On Friday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. Helena's funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Helena will be laid to eternal rest with her husband Julie in St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Road. We as a family express our deep appreciation to the doctors, nurses and care givers who provided compassionate, non-judgmental care and medical attention at Concordia Place. Special thanks to Elsie Ginter and Gordon Batenchuk for their visitations. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3. Rest In Peace Helena. We love you.
