SUSAN ROSE MARIE YAKIELASHEK (published on March 05, 2009)

SUSAN ROSE MARIE YAKIELASHEK (nee MARCYNIUK) October 15, 1958 March 1, 2009 Susan passed away at the Women's Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. at the age of 50 years, with her family by her side after a brave battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her father, Fred Marcyniuk, her father-in-law Steve Yakielashek and her uncle Bill Hodgson. She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen; her daughters, Lindsay (Chris) and Stephanie; her mother, Elizabeth; aunts, Olga, Sylvia (Ivan), Adeline (Ed); sister, June (Emile); nephew Houston; niece Nicole; mother-in-law Verna Yakielashek; brothers-in-law, Ken (Nadia), Marvin and Larry; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Susan was born and spent most of her life in and around the Fisher Branch/Hodgson area. In 1980, she married Stephen and together they began their married life in Hodgson, opening a successful convenience store. In 1986, they welcomed their first child to their family and then again in 1990. In 1996, they decided to change their business and began a 13 year venture into the world of auto parts. Susan took great joy in learning everything she could about the business. During her 50 years spent in Hodgson, many lifelong friendships were created. Susan always made sure that people around her were happy, whether it would be helping someone out when they needed it, or providing a home cooked meal to those who were hungry. Susan loved to cook. She spent many hours during the summer in her garden growing vegetables to use in her kitchen. Anytime of the day when you went to see her, she could be found in her kitchen, cooking or baking something delicious. She was a hard worker and never complained about what had to be done. But at the end of the day, she would always find a quiet place to relax and curl up with her cats to read a book. That was her time to herself. Susan always found time to be with her family, even if she had a hundred things to do in her day, she would drop everything she was doing to talk on the phone to her children or have a family visit. Many good times were spent playing games in the backyard or cards at the dining room table. Everyone had a great time when they were with her. Susan was an inspiration to all those around her. She took what life dealt her and made the best of every situation. She was a loving mother, a devoted wife, a caring daughter and sister and a very strong and brave woman. She will be missed greatly. We love you Mom Lindsay and Stephanie Forever Missed Stephen You will always be in our hearts. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 6 at 1:00 p.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk with Fr. Dado Parrenas officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish cemetery and lunch will be served in the Parish hall. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
