ALBERTO BETTENCOURT PEREIRA (published on March 05, 2009)

ALBERTO BETTENCOURT PEREIRA Born July 19, 1940 On Monday, March 2, 2009 with his loving wife, daughters and sons-in-law by his side Alberto went to be with the Lord after losing his brief but brave battle with cancer. Remaining to cherish Alberto's memory are his loving wife of 40 years Maria Helena; daughters, Natalie (Jessey Camara) and Gorette (Terry Imm); siblings, Isidro (Niveria), Jorge (Fernanda), Idalina (Manuel), Ana Maria (Nicolau), Helena (Alberto) and Manuel (Natalia); as well as his godchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Alberto was predeceased by his son, Lino Alberto and his parents Maria Soares and Joao Pereira Floriano. Alberto was born and raised in Rosais, Sao Jorge, Acores. He immigrated to Canada in 1971 where he enjoyed a very fulfilling life. Alberto's values and beliefs were to work hard and his family was his number one priority. Pai cherished his daughters who brought him great joy and he always proudly shared in family life events. He was very proud of his Portuguese culture and very devoted to his faith. He enjoyed exercising, gardening, playing the guitar and making his homemade wine and queijo fresco for all to share and enjoy. Querido Marido e Pai, you will be greatly missed and will always be in our hearts and minds. Prayers will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St., Winnipeg with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H. presiding. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. also in the Church with Rev. Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros presiding. Entombment will follow in the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Private Family Wake to follow. Pallbearers are Paulo Pereira, Mario Pereira, Jorge Pereira, Nicolau Luz, Alvarino Luz and Manuel Pereira. A sincere thank you is extended to all who visited and prayed with us, as well as to the staff at Cancer Care and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital, WRHA Nursing Unit and Dr. Annabel Vattheuer for their care, kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Alberto's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. It broke our hearts to lose you; However, you did not go alone. Part of us went with you, The day God called you home. Descança em Paz Pai.
