JAMES KLADY (published on March 06, 2009)

JAMES KLADY James (Jim) Klady passed away on March 5, 2009 of age related causes. He was in his 91st year. A prominent businessman, Mr. Klady started J.R. Klady Agencies in 1945, following his discharge from the Canadian Air Force. Beginning with a few product lines, he evolved the company into the largest manufacturer's agencies in Western Canada with offices in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. Though chiefly associated with Toy companies, the agency handled a wide variety of products and he was noted for innovative marketing techniques such as encyclopedia sales via supermarket chains. Born in Montreal on November 18, 1918, he moved to Winnipeg at three following the death of his father. He graduated from St. John's High School and married Syble Marr on the eve of his enlistment in the Second World War in 1940. Mr. Klady was involved in several charitable and philanthropic associations relating to children including an annual golf tournament organized by the Canadian Toy Association in aid of the Children's Hospital. He is survived by his wife Syble, his children Libby Zivot (Alvin) of Winnipeg, Zoe Margolis Piper (Julian) of Toronto and Leonard Klady (Beverly Walker) of Los Angeles, six grandchildren, Eric Zivot (Orlando), Dr. Joel Zivot (Winnipeg), Paula Zivot Samuel (Toronto), Ari Margolis (Toronto), Jeff Margolis (Toronto) and Mira Margolis (Toronto) and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba or the Sharon Home. Services will be held at Congregation Etz Chayim, 123 Matheson, E. at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 6.
